      What is an excess?

      Written by Majed Abdulaal

      Updated June 3rd, 2026

An excess is the amount that you pay yourself before your insurance company covers the rest of the damages. It’s also known as a deductible.

For example, choosing an excess of AED 500 means that if you file a claim for AED 5,000, your insurance company will pay you the amount over AED 500, in this situation, the remaining AED 4,500.
