What does it mean when a car is “GCC spec”?

      Written by Majed Abdulaal

      Updated June 3rd, 2026

This refers to where the car comes from. A GCC-spec car is designed for the hot and dusty climate of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. It usually has special filters and better air conditioning.

A non-GCC spec car (usually American and Japanese cars) is imported from outside the Gulf, and may have other modifications. Insurance companies want to know this because it can affect the premium and coverage you’re eligible for.
